ROLEX VERIFLAT REF. 6512 “ASPREY”
The Rolex Veriflat ref. 6512 is a remarkable timepiece designed to embody elegance and refinement with its ultra-thin case. The reduced thickness of the middle case is achieved through a clever knurling technique on the caseback, resulting in a completely flat surface. The movement used in the Veriflat is a unique variation of the cal. 1030, known as the cal. 1000, featuring a small seconds counter at 6 o’clock. The manually-wound movement was chosen to maintain the slim profile, as an automatic module would have added height and prevented the use of a flat case back. Rolex successfully achieved a remarkably thin movement, measuring only 3.45mm in thickness. Following the release of the Rolex Veriflat, around the early 1960s, the brand did not venture into similar creations, making the ref. 6512 the thinnest Rolex Oyster ever produced.
The Rolex Veriflat is already a highly sought-after and rare timepiece, but the one we have here is truly exceptional as it was sold by Asprey. This watch possesses all the correct features that a Rolex retailed by Asprey during this period should have. The Asprey signature is prominently stamped on the dial below the Veriflat script. The caseback, signed with “6512,” shows some signs of aging, but all Asprey markings are accurate, including the double RWC Ltd engraving, hallmarks, and the repeated serial number that matches the one engraved between the lugs. The overall condition is exceptionally good; the dial is flawless, the caliber operates perfectly, the caseback closes seamlessly, and the case still retains its original factory finishes. Over the years, it has acquired some beautiful oxidation, further confirming the exceptional quality of this timepiece.
