The Rolex Submariner 1680 came in both steel and 18kt yellow gold versions. The gold variant, introduced around 1969, marked the first time a Submariner was crafted from precious metal. This model was available with a choice of blue or black dials and bezel inserts, similar to the current version. The gold 1680 was discontinued in early 80’s and replaced by the reference 16808, featuring sapphire glass and a quick-date function using the caliber 3035 movement.
