Introduced in the early 1970s alongside its sister reference 6265, the Rolex Daytona reference 6263 marked an important evolution of Rolex’s manually wound chronograph. Both references featured screw-down chronograph pushers, a system first experimented with on the reference 6240, further enhancing the water-resistant Oyster construction. The reference 6263 was distinguished by its black acrylic tachymeter bezel, while both references were powered by the renowned manually wound calibre 727.
The present example is fitted with the highly desirable “Big Red” dial, characterized by the prominent red DAYTONA signature at 6 o’clock. The combination of the black dial, contrasting silvered subsidiary registers and red lettering gives the watch its unmistakable and particularly sought-after appearance.
Of particular interest is its 8.8-million serial number, placing it among the very last examples of the reference and dating to approximately 1984–1985. The watch is further distinguished by the exceptional preservation of a substantial portion of the original Rolex sticker on the case back, a rare feature that provides a remarkable indication of its state of preservation.
The watch is completed by a Rolex Oyster bracelet, reference 78350, with full links, further enhancing its originality and period-correct character.
