ROLEX “VICEROY” RADIUM REF. 3116
The Rolex Viceroy model dates from the World War II and is one of the most unusual vintage Rolex watches from mid 40’s. Its main features that differentiate it from the more classic “Ovetto” models of the same period are the manual winding caliber and the stepped flat case. This particular model is hard to find these days, especially with an original dial, hands and caseback like the present example.
This hand-wound Rolex “Viceroy” reference 3116 features a beautiful two-tone black dial with Art Deco style details and radium luminous Arabic numerals. The beauty and its rarity is further enhanced by its overall excellent condition. The stainless steel case is crisp and sharp with reference and serial number still clearly visible on caseback, perfectly working hand wound caliber, dial showing basically no signs of agin. The watch is supplied on a brown leather strap with an original Rolex buckle. Undoubtedly an excellent and extremely rare watch to add to a vintage Rolex collection.
Serial Number: 123,XXX, Watch manufactured in 1941 circa.
ROLEX CHRONOGRAPH PRE-DAYTONA REF. 6234 UNPOLISHED
The Rolex Chronograph reference 6234 is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after pre-Daytona models among collectors. It was produced for only about 6 years, from 1956 to 1961, when it was replaced by the reference 6238, the last pre-Daytona model before the introduction of the reference 6239. The reference 6234 is an exceptionally rare pre-Daytona model, as several Rolex vintage experts agree that the total production is estimated at only 2300 pieces in steel and less than 150 in 14k or 18k yellow gold. The main features of this rare Rolex chronograph are the 36mm Oyster case with screw-down caseback, the pump pushers and the Valjoux 72 hand-wound movement. Also important is the fact that the tachymeter scale is printed on the dial and not engraved on the bezel, as is the case with all Daytona references from 6239 onwards. The 6234 was produced with a variety of dial types, differing by both final sales market and production year.
Very few examples of reference 6234 were made, and even fewer have survived in exceptional condition to this day. These watches often have poorly polished cases and damaged dials. This is not the case with the present specimen. It is surprisingly very well preserved and in excellent overall condition. The case is most likely unpolished and retains the original factory proportions with strong and sharp lugs. The dial shows no major signs of aging, the caliber is in perfect condition, and the caseback screws down perfectly. Note that the main feature of this specimen is the correspondence between the dial with telemetric and tachymetric scales in Miles (typical of pre-Daytonas sold in the United States) and the movement marked ROW. The latter is present in all watches sold in the United States during the production period of this 6234.
All components are correct and original to the production period, including the dial, the Rolex signed Valjoux 72 caliber, and the 6234 signed caseback.
Serial Number 534,XXX, Year 1960.
ROLEX SUBMARINER REF. 16618 SERTI DIAL
Production of the Rolex Submariner reference 16618 began around 1988 and it was the successor to the 16808, the previous Rolex Submariner reference in 18kt yellow gold. The production of reference 16618 ceased in 2008 and it was replaced by the current modern version with ceramic bezel. Reference 16618 was produced with black or blue dial. In some rare cases, the reference 16618 was equipped with gemstone dials, like the present specimen. Indeed, the exclusivity of this Rolex Submariner 16618 is further enhanced by the presence of a very rare Serti dial with diamond and sapphire hour markers.
The present Rolex Submariner ref.16618 is in exceptional overall condition. The case has been very lightly polished over the years, but still has the original factory proportions with deep gold hallmarks under the lugs. The matching 18-karat gold bracelet shows no stretch whatsoever. The rare Serti dial is in mint condition and shows no signs of age such as stains or pitting. All components are as per production period: Swiss t-25 Serti dial, blue inlay, 92908/46B 18kt gold bracelet, triple lock crown, 16610 signed case back, 3135 COSC movement.
MIDO MULTI CENTER CHRONO BROWN DIAL
The Multi Center Chrono was introduced in the early 1940s and is undoubtedly one of the most famous and sought-after Mido watches. Its main feature is that it does not have chronograph sub-counters on the dial, but an additional hand that performs the function of the minutes subdial. The double chronograph hand is usually found only on split second watches, but not in this case, where one chronograph hand measures time in seconds and the other in minutes. Another important feature is that the waterproof case of the Multi Center Chrono was made by the famous Taubert / Borgel company, which is also known for manufacturing cases for very famous brands like Patek Philippe and Movado. The Mido Multi Center Chrono has been produced in countless versions over time. The most coveted are certainly those with special features like this specimen, whose dial has taken on a fascinating brown color over the years.
This Mido Multi Center Chrono is a very fascinating example of this model. It dates back to the 1950s and is in very good overall condition. The case has most likely never been touched, the dial with luminous Arabic hour markers has taken on a pleasant brown color, the Mido 1300 caliber (based on a Valjoux 23) is in excellent condition and works perfectly. Note also the Portuguese import stamp on the handle at 10 of the clock, an element that makes this rare watch even more exclusive.
ROLEX DAYTONA REF. 16528 4 LINES DIAMOND DIAL
Introduced in 1988, the new Rolex Daytona model was made not only in stainless steel, but also in 18-karat yellow gold. The specimens in gold are even rarer than those in steel, as they were produced in very small numbers. This is the reason why is very difficult to find a gold example in pristine original condition, especially an early example coming with the serial number “R”. The present Rolex Daytona 16528 is one of the very first specimens produced with serial number R9, it is in untouched original condition and comes with an extremely rare and rarely seen “4 Lines” diamond dial. All of these features make this 16528 a truly exciting watch for the Daytona collector.
This Rolex Daytona reference 16528 is an excellent specimen that has been cared for with extreme attention over the years. The case is pristine with a pleasing oxidation patina, the bracelet is tight, the dial is absolutely flawless, the bezel has all numerals intact, the movement functions perfectly. The appeal of this example is further enhanced by the presence of the extremely rare black “4 Lines” diamond dial. All components of the watch are correct for the period of production: black “4 Lines” diamond dial, Mk1 bezel, 16500 signed caseback, 4030 ser. 13,XXX caliber, 78668 / M8 bracelet.
The watch comes without original box and warranty.
Serial number R,983,XXX, year 1989.
