ROLEX BUBBLEBACK REF. 5028 RED WRITING

Rolex introduced the Bubbleback in the early 1930s, and it was the company’s best seller for nearly 20 years. It was produced in fairly large quantities in a variety of metals, case shapes, and dial designs. The nickname Bubbleback derives from the typical highly rounded shape of the casebacks, which was caused by the rather large dimensions of the automatic calibers used by Rolex during that period. Another important feature of the Bubbleback watches is the fact that they were equipped with automatic movements and waterproof cases, both exceptional and surprising features for a wristwatch at that time. In very rare cases, some Bubbleback models were made in larger cases than usual, hence the name “Big” Bubbleback. This Rolex reference 5028 is a perfect example of a “Big” Bubbleback wristwatch with a 36mm case.

The present Rolex “Big” Bubbleback ref.5028 is distinguished by its remarkable state of preservation. Even though more than 60 years have passed since the watch left the Rolex factory, the overall condition is still exceptional. The dial and case show only slight signs of aging, which can be considered completely normal for a watch from the late 1950s. All components are consistent with the production period: Swiss-made grenè dial, Dauphine hands, Oyster crown, signed and patented screw-down caseback, self-winding perpetual movement. The rarity of the present 5028 is further enhanced by the fact that the dial has the lettering for water resistance in red, which is very rare and unusual.

OMEGA SPEEDMASTER ANNIVERSARY LIMITED EDITION REF. 3693.50.81

In 1998, to celebrate its 150th anniversary, Omega launched reference 3693.50.81, a limited edition of the “Replica” Speedmaster. With a limited edition of only 150 pieces, this Speedmaster is an extremely rare and very hard to find watch. Its main features are an 18-karat yellow gold case, a black dial and the “Broad Arrow”, the 18kt gold caseback with commemorative inscriptions, the sapphire crystal and the 1863 caliber. The bracelet could be either 18-karat yellow gold or leather with a deployant clasp like the present specimen.

This Omega Speedmaster ref. 3693.50.81 150th Anniversary has been cared for with extreme care and attention over the years. The condition is simply amazing: the case has never been polished and has deep stamps and a pleasant oxidation patina, the dial is perfect, as is the caliber 1863. Most likely stored in a safe for many years and hardly used, this specimen is undoubtedly one of the best preserved examples to come on the market. The watch is completely original and correct for the year of manufacture.

LONGINES CHRONOGRAPH 13ZN YELLOW GOLD GIUDICI MILANO REF.3756

In the mid-1930s, Longines developed the 13zn, which would later become one of the most famous chronograph calibers in the world. According to many connoisseurs of vintage watchmaking, it is one of, if not the most elaborate and valuable in-house caliber of the era. Caliber 13ZN has a diameter of 29.80 mm (13 1/4 lignes) and a height of 6.05 mm. The plate is of the Lepine type with 6 bridges and 18 jewels. The movement has a column wheel, a flyback function and a balance wheel with 18,000 vibrations per hour. Models made after 1938 were also equipped with an anti-shock system. Movement finishes were of two types: with galvanic gold or rhodium plating depending on year of manufacture. The 13ZN was used for a few years and then replaced by the caliber 30ch in the late 40’s. Longines chronographs equipped with the 13zn are undoubtedly marvels of vintage watchmaking art and highly sought after by collectors, if they are in exceptional condition like the present specimen.

The present Longines chronograph 13zn is certainly one of the most attractive specimens currently available on the market. The exclusivity of this watch is further emphasized by the double signature on the dial. Besides Longines, here you can also find the signature “Giudici Milano”, a very famous multi-brand retailer in Milan, which no longer exists. Watches with double signature are very rare, only very few 13zn watches appeared with double signed dials. The dial is not only double signed, but also has the peculiarity of being “Sandwich”. A “Sandwich” dial is made of two layers welded together by feet at 3, 6, 9 and 12, creating a three-dimensional effect. The overall conditions are exceptional, case, dial, movement, caseback are original and with a wonderful uniform patina that give even more charm to this very rare watch. The watch is completely matching in every of his component.
