PATEK PHILIPPE PERPETUAL CALENDAR CHRONOGRAPH REFERENCE 3970R
The Patek Philippe Reference 5970 is an iconic and highly coveted timepiece among collectors. It’s part of the brand’s Grand Complications collection, known for its exquisite craftsmanship and intricate complications. The Reference 3970 is a perpetual calendar chronograph watch, combining two significant complications in watchmaking. It features a 24-hour sub-dial, a moon phase indicator, day and month displays, and a leap year indicator alongside the chronograph function. The perpetual calendar is designed to automatically adjust for months with different lengths and leap years. Patek Philippe launched reference 3970 in 1986 and was manufactured in yellow gold, pink gold, white gold, and platinum across four distinct series, its production extending over 19 years. It’s estimated that during its manufacturing run, only 4,000 units of this particular model were created.
This particular piece belongs to the fourth series, representing one of the final examples produced by the factory. This can be identified by the baton hands, faceted indexes, as well as the inclusion of a solid gold caseback and deployant clasp. Another exceptional feature adding to its rarity and collectibility is the use of pink gold, one of the scarcer materials in which the 3970 was manufactured.
The overall condition of this timepiece is exceptionally well-preserved, showcasing deep hallmarks, sharply defined lugs, an immaculate dial, and caliber. There are virtually no visible signs of wear or use, indicating minimal exposure to wrist wear. HEUER AUTAVIA REF 2446 SECOND EXECUTION
Introduced by Ed. Heuer & Co. in 1962, the “Autavia” marked the inaugural Heuer chronograph to be given a specific model name. This new Autavia line debuted in two variations: a three-register model known as Reference 2446 and a two-register model designated as Reference 3646. Both versions sported a black dial with white registers. The concept for the Autavia emerged in 1961 when Jack Heuer, along with his production team, conceived the name by blending “Automobile” and “Aviation” elements. References 2446 and 3646 were assembled with diverse dial, hands, and case combinations, which can be summarized concisely under two main categories termed the first and second executions. The current specimen falls under the second execution batch, distinguished by smaller subdials featuring Tritium (T) indications, dauphine steel-edge hands, and applied steel markers accompanied by luminous dots. Two types of bezels were available as well. One like the present example, equipped with 60 separate one-minute divisions. The second bezel featured 12-hour divisions, enabling the display of an additional time zone.
The present Heuer Autavia reference 2446 stands as an exceptional specimen within the second execution batch. Every component aligns with the production period, including the steel edge hands, small subdials dial, graduated bezel, pushers, signed waterproof caseback, and caliber. Its overall condition remains impressive, exuding a fantastic and captivating vintage allure.
Although the dial and bezel exhibit slight signs of aging, entirely typical for a watch of this age, they contribute to its character. Notably, the bezel has acquired a pleasing brown tone over the years. The case displays wear consistent with the watch’s age yet maintains excellent overall shape.
The Valjoux 72 caliber operates flawlessly and appears in excellent condition. This timepiece would make a splendid addition to any Heuer collection.
