BREGUET MINUTE REPEATER PLATINUM REF.3637
The Breguet reference 3637, with its 36mm case, epitomizes the classic elegance of Breguet’s design heritage. Launched in 1993, a few years before Swatch Group acquired the brand, it was produced until around 2010, after which it was succeeded by the larger reference 7637, which featured the same movement with some minor differences. This model embodies the quintessential elements of a Breguet Classique, including a small seconds subdial, Roman numerals, and the distinctive Breguet hands. Its engine-turned dial showcases four different patterns: “Clou de Paris” on the main dial, “Damier croisĂ©” on the subdial at 9 o’clock, “Vieux paniers” on the upper half of the subdial at 3 o’clock, and “DĂ©cor flammĂ©” on the lower half of the subdial at 3 o’clock. The small seconds are displayed on the subdial at 9 o’clock, with a 24-hour indication on the subdial at 3 o’clock. The movement, based on a Lemania Ă©bauche, draws inspiration from the traditional Minute Repeaters of La VallĂ©e de Joux, further enhancing the watch’s classical and sophisticated appeal.
The Breguet reference 3637 is an exceptional example of an extremely rare timepiece manufactured by Breguet in the mid-1990s. The standout feature of this exquisite piece is its minute repeater complication, one of the most beloved and sought-after complications by collectors due to its complexity and prestige. Beyond this remarkable complication, the watch boasts unique elegance with a finely crafted 36mm case featuring elongated lugs and intricate line motifs on the side. The overall condition is truly stunning, with the watch in mint, like-new condition, showing only a few signs of wear on the case. The dial is flawless, and the movement functions perfectly, producing a beautiful sound when the slide on the left side of the case is activated. The collectibility of this watch is further enhanced by its case material, as very few reference 3637 models were made in platinum. It is truly a connoisseur’s watch to cherish and wear.
Year mid 90’s, Serial Number 14XX, Diameter 36mm.
CARTIER REVERSO LADY WHITE GOLD
The term “Reverso” is often associated with Jaeger LeCoultre’s iconic watch model. However, other brands have also contributed significantly to the concept of reversible timepieces. In 1930, Cartier made a notable advancement by developing and patenting a similar reversible case system, initially named the “Cabriolet Reverso” before becoming known as the “Basculante.” This innovative design did not gain widespread recognition until the 1970s when Cartier introduced the Tank Reverso, a prime example of this inventive concept.
The Cartier Tank Reverso featured here is particularly intriguing. It has a Paris dial, affirming its connection to Cartier Paris, a detail further authenticated by the French hallmarks on the caseback. The desirability and collectibility of this Cartier Reverso are amplified by its materials. Notably, it has a white gold case paired with a matching white gold deployant, a rarity among Cartier Reversos. Although the size (approximately 19×26.5mm) is traditionally considered for ladies, its bulky shape makes it suitable for male collectors as well. Furthermore, the watch’s exceptional quality is unmis-takable. Its dial remains pristine, the caliber functions flawlessly, and the case retains its robust pro-file and sharp lines. This combination of superb quality and rarity makes this timepiece an outstand-ing addition to any Cartier collection.
ULYSSE NARDIN SAN MARCO JACQUEMART LIMITED EDITION
In 1989, the San Marco collection was introduced, featuring the first jacquemart minute repeater wristwatch, inspired by the Moors of Venice’s Piazza San Marco. A jacquemart is a mechanized automaton, typically made from wood or metal, that strikes the hours on a bell with a hammer. Having a wristwatch with jacquemarts was a world-class innovation. As the hour chimes, the automaton on the dial brings the two figures to life, making them appear to strike the bell simultaneously, something really extraordinary for a wristwatch.
The present timepiece is truly a work of art. Activating the minute repeater mechanism and watching the two jacquemarts strike the bell is a visual delight. Beyond its intricate mechanical complication, this Ulysse Nardin San Marco boasts a stunning design. The 40 mm case, crafted in white gold, features a prominent lever to activate the minute repeater mechanism. The dial is a breathtaking display of royal blue champlevé enamel, adorned with applied baton and Roman numeral indexes. Through the sapphire caseback, one can admire the beautiful movement, signed by the renowned Renaud & Papi, adding to the desirability of this watch, as these two are still giants in the watchmaking industry today.
The overall condition is exceptional. The mechanism has been recently serviced and functions flawlessly, the dial is in mint condition, and the case shows signs of wear but appears to have never been polished. This timepiece is a limited edition, with likely fewer than 10 examples in existence.
Includes the original box and papers.
ULYSSE NARDIN SAN MARCO ENAMEL DIAL LIMITED EDITION
Following the challenges posed by the quartz crisis, Ulysse Nardin underwent a revitalization in 1983 under the guidance of Rolf Schnyder, a former executive from Jaeger-LeCoultre. Collaborating with watchmaker Ludwig Oechslin, the brand shifted its focus towards complication and mechanical innovation while also upholding traditional enameling methods such as cloisonnĂ©, champlevĂ©, and grand feu. The San Marco collection served as a platform for showcasing these techniques, featuring elaborate portrayals of maritime his-tory, ships, clippers, and architectural landmarks. These intricately crafted pieces, produced in limited quantities due to the meticulous nature of cloisonnĂ© craftsmanship, epitomize Ulysse Nardin’s dedication to both artistry and technological advancement.
This Ulysse Nardin wristwatch is part of the prestigious “San Marco” collection, which was considered the pinnacle of Ulysse Nardin’s craftsmanship. The collection aimed to showcase the brand’s expertise in creating highly intricate timepieces, both mechanically and aesthetically, exemplified by the exquisite enamel dial of this particular watch. Limited to just 25 pieces, this watch is exceptionally rare, seldom appearing on the market. The enamel dial is themed around the historic event “French Canal 1653,” depicting the Battle of Scheveningen, the final naval battle of the First Anglo-Dutch War. The scene portrays a violent naval clash, including a sinking ship destroyed by the enemy and two more ships fiercely engaged in battle in the background. In addition to its rarity and beauty, this watch is exceptionally well-preserved, with minimal signs of wear on the case and a flawless enamel dial free from cracks or damage. A true work of art, it deserves a place in any esteemed watch collection.
ROLEX OYSTER EMPIRE REF. 3548 RED GOLD
Radio was used in watchmaking since the early 1900s as a light-reactive substance in the indices of dials. It was only after several decades that it was discovered to be an extremely harmful material when handled, but until about the early 1960s, when its use was discontinued, it can be found on the dials of a wide variety of watch brands. This rare Rolex Oyster Empire ref. 3548 also features the original radio on both the hour markers and hands.
This Rolex Oyster “Empire” ref. 3548 from the 1940s is undoubtedly a timepiece of great appeal to the collector of vintage watches. Not only is it exceptionally well preserved for its age, but it is also very rare, featuring a rose gold case and salmon dial. The original radio is still present on the dial and hands. The latter also left a fascinating burn mark on the dial, which is another testament to the history of this beautiful timepiece from early 1900’s. All components are correct and match the production period.
