ROLEX LADY REF. 8788 “CHAMALEON”
The Rolex “Chamaleon” is a classic ladies’ watch that was marketed by Rolex between the 1950s and 1970s. Its name comes from the fact that the leather strap could be easily and almost instantly changed, making the watch suitable for any occasion – hence the name Chamaeleon. It was possible to simply remove the leather strap and insert another one, with a mechanism similar to that of military bracelets NATO. The Rolex Chamaleon, as seen in some old ads, was originally sold with several suede straps and a rectangular Rolex box in which you could put the different straps and the watch.
This Rolex “Chamaleon” is an excellent example of this rare ladies watch. It was made in the mid-1950s and features a white gold case and hand-wound movement. THE CONDITIONS ARE VERY GOOD. The original box it was sold in at the time and some interchangeable straps are included.
