Introduced in 1928, the Tank à Guichets represents one of Cartier’s most unconventional interpretations of the iconic Tank. Instead of conventional hands, the time is displayed through two apertures in the case, with a jumping hour and trailing minutes. The design was further explored by Cartier throughout the 1930s, when the Maison produced a number of unique examples experimenting with the shape and positioning of the apertures, the integration of the brancards, the position of the crown and the choice of materials.
The model was subsequently revisited in 1997 to commemorate Cartier’s 150th anniversary, and again in 2005 as part of the Collection Privée Cartier Paris, reaffirming the Tank à Guichets as one of the Maison’s most distinctive and avant-garde designs.
In 2025, Cartier revived the Tank à Guichets as part of the Cartier Privé collection, introducing three regular-production interpretations alongside a particularly distinctive Oblique version. The present example is the latter: crafted in platinum and limited to 200 individually numbered pieces, it features the two apertures positioned diagonally across the case, creating an asymmetrical composition inspired by Cartier’s experimental creations of the 1930s.
The watch is powered by the manually wound calibre 9755 MC, developed specifically for the Tank à Guichets and combining a jumping-hour and trailing-minute display. The crown is positioned at 12 o’clock, as on the original 1928 model, while the brushed platinum case contrasts with its polished brancards, emphasizing the architectural purity of the Tank design.
