The Patek Philippe reference Ref. 2552 is undoubtedly one of the most popular Calatrava models among collectors. The esthetics of this watch are indeed exceptionally modern. The water-resistant stepped case measures 36 mm, and the dial is just as wide, which, together with the small curved lugs, makes the watch to have a great presence on the wrist. Nicknamed “Disco Volante” by collectors for its unusual shapes, reference 2552 is highly sought after, especially when it has with rare features like the present example. Reference 2552 was produced for 5 years, from 1955 to 1960, examples with double signature can be counted on the fingers of one hand. In addition, the movement is appropriately stamped ‘HOX,’ the correct import mark for the American market, a fact that further confirms that the watch was originally marketed in the US, where Tiffany is based. The caseback bears an intriguing dedication indicating that this watch was a birthday gift from employees to their employer.
